An incredibly unusual interwar to WW2 British Army General’s cap.

This cap itself likely dates from the late 1920s-1930s, being made by Alkit but still bearing some earlier features. It could have been used well into WW2.

Featuring an embroidered General‘s cap badge and red felt band, with General’s buttons.

It features an earlier thin M1905 style leather chinstrap, which is consistent with someone who presumably served in the officers ranks during WW1. There is evidence of a cap badge being fixed underneath the red band, although this does not seem out of place if the cap had been used pre-promotion.

Alkit made caps from 1914 onwards (as evidenced in their own advertising material, citing 25 years experience in 1939), although the exact date of adopting the Alkit name itself is unclear, it is likely the mid 1920s.

The sweatband has also been purposefully removed, possibly hinting at a posting in a hot climate, India or Egypt, Burma or North Africa perhaps.

There is unfortunately some mothing and staining to the felt band but otherwise the cap is in good condition.

Size approx 57cm

A very rare cap.
