Original late Victorian / Edwardian 1st Volunteer Battalion Royal Fusiliers Frogged Patrol Jacket Named To Lieutenant Hickman (Henry Richard Belcher)
Made from near black superfine Melton cloth. The front has 4 rows of square cord with drops, netted caps and olivettes (toggles).. 1” mohair to the edges and back. Twin pockets to front beside 4th row and additional breast pocket. Black cloth lining.
Named to Lieutenant Hickman.
Condition is generally very good with a small number of small moth holes as pictured. One of the rope ball buttons is missing on the shoulder tab.
Chest Size approx 37 inches.
Armpit to armpit measurement is 18.5 inches. Armpit to cuff is 20 inches.
Henry Richard Belcher Hickman
Born: 11 April 1866.
Attended Christ Church, Oxford University; matriculated 10 October 1884, aged 18, and took his BA in 1888.
He subsequently qualified in medicine at St George's Hospital, becoming MB BCh in 1894 and MRCS/LRCP in 1894. He was an ophthalmic surgeon.
He served with the Oxford University Rifles Volunteers, part of the Oxfordshire Light Infantry, and subsequently with the 1st Volunteer Battalion Royal Fusiliers.
During WWI he commanded the Chesham Company of the Buckinghamshire Reserve Regiment.
The London Gazette confirms that Captain Henry Richard Belcher Hickman was appointed second-in-command of the 4th Volunteer Battalion, Oxford and Bucks Light Infantry, effective 31 August 1918.
