A rare Pre-WW1 1st Middlesex Rifles (Victoria & St George’s) OR’s sealskin rifles busby.
A great example of the short-lived sealskin rifleman’s busby, this pattern being introduced in 1902 and falling out of use by the end of WW1. This example likely dates from 1902-1908, when the Victoria & St George’s Rifles were amalgamated with the 19th Middlesex Rifles (Bloomsbury Rifles) to form the 9th (County of London) Battalion of the London Regiment (Queen Victoria’s Rifles).
With Hobson & Sons label, 1902-1908 Victoria & St George’s Rifles badge and black horse hair plume.
The busby has a few small patches of fur loss, as is to be expected with age, but otherwise is in excellent condition
It is marked as size 7.
