Fantastic pre-WW1 cutaway uniform grouping for Major Robert Walter Purvis 3rd Battalion Gordon Highlanders.
The grouping comprises of pre-WW1 Highland cut-away doublet cuff rank tunic with majors rank insignia to the cuffs.
With Gordon Highlanders tunic buttons throughout - all present.
Boer War Queens South Africa medal ribbon above breast pocket. His QSA was awarded with 3 clasps.
Partially lined interior to the tunic with a label with a punched number 2856.
Accompanied by a Gordon Highlanders tartan kilt with leather strap and buckle fitting.
Single strap Sam Browne officers belt.
WW1 era Gordon Highlanders Glengarry cap with fantastic cast solid silver (not hallmarked) regimental glengarry badge.
Also supplied with a very large card backed photograph (61 x 48cm) of Scottish officers, including Purvis sitting in the front row, 3rd from left, wearing this jacket and glengarry or similar.
Both the jacket and kilt have some scattered moth damage (pictured) but otherwise it is a nice grouping.
Robert Walter Purvis (Robin), was born near St Andrews, Fife.
He was commissioned into South East of Scotland RGA (militia), 2nd Lt 03/07/90
He became Lt on 17/05/92, and Capt on 19/06/93. He transferred into newly created Fyfe & Forfar Yeomanry, serving with 6th Btn Imperial Yeomanry in 2nd Boer war, taking command of the company during action at Hartley’s Nek and being severely wounded in action at Nooitgedacht and MID (10/09/01)
On 19/10/01 he was seconded for service in the provisional cavalry and assigned to the 4th Queens Own Hussars where he would be a Captain on reserve until 1905.
In 1903 he joined 3rd Btn the Gordon Highlanders where he remained as Hon major until the end of WW1.

Jacket is approx 37 inch chest. It measures 19 inches from armpit to armpit when laid flat and 18 inches from armpit to cuff.
