An 1870s-1880s, Prussian Officer’s M1867 Eisenbahn Regiment visor cap
With original Officers cockade which has lost its colour - the cap predates the introduction of the Imperial German, national cockade so only ever would have had this cockade (There is no evidence of another being fitted meaning it was used pre 1890s).
The Eisenbahn Regiment was formed in 1875 as part of the Verkehrstruppen (Transportation Troops) and was tasked with the operation and repair of the rail lines for the Army.
Dark blue wool with crimson piping and black velvet Officers band.
Very small visor / brim typical of the early 1867 model. Visor slightly loose at one end.
Size is quite small eg approx 53-54
Makers label on silk lining inside for J Fiscus of Meisenheim
Overall structural condition and shape is very good.
piping has a number of frayed patches and 2 holes in the top piping. The top has a lot of moth trails but there are no moth holes in the cap.
Rare to find such an early model of this cap.
