A really lovely and rare example of a Boer War/pre WW1 British army officer's wolseley pattern pith helmet, featuring the thick puggaree characteristic of the period.
Helmets with this pattern of puggaree were common during the Boer War and were reused even until the very start of WW1, but were quickly reduced to save on materials. The liner is also characteristic of a turn of the century example.
Wolseley helmets of this period are not common, making this almost certainly an officer's private purchase model. This example came with another pith of similar age which was Canadian, so there is an chance it is also Canadian rather than British.
Sadly it is missing its topper, chinstrap and chinstrap hook on top - the indent of the hook is still visible.
