Something really special, an incredibly rare Victorian bearskin busby for the 3rd Militia Battalion, Durham Fusiliers, with its matching tin.
Dates from between 1869-1881.
Durham Fusiliers were formed in 1869, and, became the 3rd Battalion Durham Light Infantry in 1881
With silver and enamelled busby badge and white horsehair hackle, with silver plated ear rosettes and ornate laurel wreath chin scales backed with black velvet, the inner skull with a leather strap, with cloth bag and associated black japanned tin.
Slightly mis-shapen, but goes back into shape when worn
Small amount of fur missing from the top rim.
Badge is lacking some of the red Enamel
Size approx 56-57
The only example I have ever seen in this condition.
