Very Rare Original pre WW1 imperial German Navy (Kaiserliche Marine) Ratings Cap for II Matrosen-Artillerie-Abteilung, complete with its tails.
This unit is the 2nd Replacement Company, 2nd Matrosen Artillery Battalion
the cap tally reads “A.E.K. II. MATR. ARTILLERIE ABTL. II. A.E.K.”. the tally is sewn onto the headband.
The unit was a Coastal Artillery unit manning: Coastal batteries, Harbour defenses, Fixed naval guns and was garrisoned primarily at Wilhelmshaven.
It is made from Dark blue wool and with a faux leather sweatnband. Beautifully lined in a blue silk.
Also with a decorative tailor/atelier embroidery presentation-style label that were typical of the pre WW1 period and used by high-end military tailors and naval outfitters, especially in port cities - it has ornate gold embroidery on black silk.
With original State cockade badge.
The sweatband has a maker name which (I think) reads Pfeffer & Taifun Mutze of Wilhelmshaven.
In fantastic condition, complete with its tails and with no mothing.
Size approx 57 cm
Very hard to find cap, especially in this condition.
