Fantastic and rare Original Victorian South Staffordshire Militia Major's Scarlet Wool Service Field Jacket.
The jacket dates from the 1880s-90s and is also known as an undress scarlet service frock.
These Service / Field jacket are much rather than mess or parade jackets.
On the shoulders the jacket has Victorian metal rank crowns for a Major and brass M badge for Militia.
Victorian brass South Staffordshire buttons throughout - all present.
The Jacket has cream collar and cuffs facings and with brass South Staffordshire badges to the collar.
Jacket is nicely lined and with a makers label for W Thomas, Cheltenham. It is named to a captain but the surname is hard to make out.
Jacket condition is very good with one small moth nip, some discolouration of the cream collar and of the cuffs.
Chest Size is small approx 37 inches. Armpit to armpit measurement is 19 inches. Armpit to cuff is 18 inches.
