Original WW1 1902 Pattern ORs Tunic Jacket for a Lancashire Fusiliers Staff Sergeant dated 1916.
Standard issue 02 pattern service dress tunic, constructed in the usual khaki serge material.
With brass General Service (polished) buttons throughout - these appear professionally refitted to make the jacket slightly bigger, perhaps as the soldier got older & bigger.
With Lancashire Fusiliers brass 'LF' shoulder titles that are well polished - there are holes for a different set of shoulder titles.
With 55th Divisional patches to each sleeve followed by the rank of Staff Sergeant below with brass metal crown above the stripes. All of these elements appear fully original.
To the rear of the collar is a battle patch of a red upside triangle denoting the unit of the 2nd/5th Lancashire Fusiliers, 164th Brigade is in place. This has been applied at a later date, potentially as part of reunion activities.
The interior displays the paper label dating the tunic to 1916 and manufactured by 'Louis Michaels & Co' of London.
War department ink stamps are in the usual place to the lining above the brass belt hook.
The tunic remains in generally very good condition with only slight signs of moth damage - one small hole at the back of the collar and any others are more 'pinprick' sized. The left armpit seam has a small section which is unstitched and could easily be repaired.
The label states the size as 36 inch chest and 32 inch waist. Armpit to cuff measures 20 inches.
