WW1 Gallantry Military Medal Group to ALFRED BROWN who served at GALLIPOLI with the 6th Yorkshires, and then in the ROYAL IRISH RIFLES

Private Alfred Brown (18355, 40664) 6th Btn Yorkshire Regt, 1st Royal Irish Rifles

Alfred was from Fencehouses in County Durham in the North East of England.

Alfred served first in the 6th Btn of the Yorkshire Regiment where he earned the 1914-15 Star, War Medal and Victory medal. Whilst in the Yorkshire Regiment he served in the Balkans and his application for the 1914-15 Star states a qualifying date of 14th July 1915.

He landed at Suvla Bay Gallipoli and was part of the 6th Yorkshires that assaulted the Turkish trenches on Lala Baba Hill on 7th August 1915 .

He later moved to the 1st Btn Royal Irish Rifles as a Rifleman and where he was awarded the Military Medal for gallantry, and this appears in the London Gazette dated 17th June 1919.

He appears within the Royal Irish Rifles regiment list roll as having received the Military Medal.
