Private Alfred Oliphant (27411)
Born 1895 in Aberdeen, Alfred was a watchhouse keeper who enlisted into the military in 1915. He joined the Highland Light Infantry (1/5th [City of Glasgow] Battalion, C Company) with service numbers 27411 and then later 203266. He then transferred to the Northumberland Fusiliers with service number 54223 and to the Hampshire Regiment with service number 06305. He also appears to have used the service number 6476 although which regiment this is attached to is unclear.
He was admitted hospital (M ward, No. 24 Stationary Hospital, No. 2 Infantry Base Depot) for Nervous debility (shell shock), for 3 days in 1917, although it is unclear which regiment he was serving in at the time. He was discharged in 1919, with his war pension claimed for shell shock being denied on apprenticeship grounds.
